synopsis

The popular Israeli band – Idan Raichel Project – appear in Ethiopia for the first time, but their concert in Addis Ababa is more than just another performance, it is also a journey back to a homeland for two of the band’s lead singers – Cabra Casay and Avi Vograss Vesa, who are both Ethiopian Israelis.

For Cabra and Avi, this journey raises questions of racism and self-identity and reawakens the pains of migration, which are still present, even after many years of living in Israel. The film explores the characters’ relationship with the leader of their band Idan Raichel, a native Israeli, as well as their relationship with the homeland which they are separated from yet remains forever present in their minds and hearts.

“[Tomer] Heymann once again succeeds in revealing, with sensitivity and modesty, almost imperceptible presence; people, moments and moods that raise complex and subversive questions about culture and self-identity”
